The Master of Music in Performance degree's conducting specialization at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa cultivates tomorrow's musical leaders by focusing on personal artistic growth and conducting mastery. This intensive program caters to musicians aiming to refine their conducting abilities through comprehensive training in all facets of the conductor's craft. The curriculum objectives include enhancing professional development, improving ensemble leadership in educational settings, and equipping students for advanced doctoral programs. Students choose from three specialization options: choral, orchestral, or wind ensemble conducting.
Performance majors in the Conducting track receive personalized mentorship from all conducting faculty members, spanning different ensemble types, to develop a versatile approach to the conductor's art. Hands-on learning occurs through regular podium opportunities during rehearsals and live performances.

Qualification Requirements
To be eligible, an applicant must hold or expect to hold prior to matriculation a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, or an equivalent degree from a recognized non-U.S. institution of higher education.
Graduate Division requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 for unconditional admission
All international applicants are required to submit one transcript or academic record from each institution of higher education attended, including any study abroad or exchange programs, summer programs, and non-degree work and extension programs. Applicants may submit unofficial copies of transcripts while applying for admission. However, admitted students are required to submit official transcripts in order to enroll at UHM. Official transcripts or academic records must be sent to Graduate Division Student Services directly from the issuing institution(s), or in sealed institutional envelopes if submitted with the application.
Other TOEFL score minimum requirements for the Music Department are: 540(P), 207 (C) or 76(I) for all other master's students.
