We maintain that actors should have access to diverse artistic techniques. The Acting program at UHM provides dedicated students with an unparalleled opportunity to explore performance styles and methodologies from across the globe. Participants can immerse themselves in various theatrical traditions: Stanislavski's approach for stage and screen, indigenous Hawaiian performance, movement arts, puppet theater, physical comedy, classical Shakespearean works, historical acting techniques, vocal accents, theatrical fighting skills, musical theater, collaborative creation, and numerous Asian performance forms such as Japanese kabuki, kyogen, and noh, Chinese jingju and kunqu, plus Indonesian randai and wayang listrik. The program includes unique collaborations with the College of Nursing through the HealthCAST patient simulation initiative. Graduates depart UHM with specialized insight into how these varied disciplines connect, overlap, and enhance live performance. The UHM Acting program offers an unmatched combination of comprehensive training and profound theatrical exploration.
