The dance department provides several graduate programs: MA Plan A, MA Plan B, and MFA. GRE scores aren't necessary for admission to any dance master's program, though international students must achieve a minimum TOEFL score of 600. MA Plan A students must complete a written thesis, while Plan B involves extra coursework culminating in a capstone project or paper. The MFA program demands a performance and choreography thesis along with supporting written materials. All graduate dance applicants should possess relevant undergraduate experience, provide a writing sample (such as a significant academic paper), and arrange for three recommendation letters to be sent to the dance department. MFA applicants must additionally submit video recordings showcasing their choreographic and performance abilities.
Fall semester applications are due February 1 (January 15 for international students), while spring semester deadlines are September 1 (August 1 for international applicants). Students may advance to candidacy after completing 12 graduate credits in the department, addressing any undergraduate deficiencies, and (for MFA candidates) presenting satisfactory creative work (the qualifying dance performance).
