The Graduate Certificate in Asian Studies equips students with (and validates their acquisition of) advanced expertise on Asia or particular Asian subregions. This certificate program functions as a strategic career enhancement for graduate students in specialized disciplines (such as PhD or MA candidates in sociology, political science, music, or law) as well as for professionals across diverse sectors including business, government, education, legal practice, and public health - fields where interdisciplinary understanding of Asian cultures is increasingly valued. Participants can customize the certificate curriculum to align with their academic aspirations and professional objectives.
Graduate Certificate Learning Outcomes
Upon completing the required coursework for the Graduate Certificate, students will:
Exhibit comprehension of key themes and challenges in arts, humanities, and social sciences as they pertain to Asia or specific Asian regions.
Show proficiency in interpreting research and conducting Asia-focused studies utilizing methodologies from various academic disciplines, including humanities, arts, and social sciences.
The Asian Studies Graduate Program provides seven distinct Graduate Certificates available to all qualified graduate students. Certificate candidates must complete five approved courses (totaling 15 credits) and prove fundamental proficiency in an Asian language.
