The Ocean and Resources Engineering (ORE) program provides advanced studies culminating in Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. This program equips students for professional engineering careers while fostering research capabilities to enhance educational outcomes. Developed in partnership with ORE's advisory board, these goals and the accompanying curriculum aim to:
For MS graduates, the program seeks to develop professionals who, within several years of completing their degree:
Can tackle complex, interdisciplinary challenges by integrating pertinent data and employing mathematical, scientific, and engineering fundamentals,
Excel as engineering practitioners who transform client specifications and technical demands into achievable projects while formulating practical solutions or design proposals,
Possess comprehensive knowledge of ocean engineering fields along with awareness of evolving industry requirements and technological advancements,
Demonstrate exceptional competence and preparedness to take charge of assignments within various ocean engineering specialties,
Exercise sound decision-making regarding professional ethics, management considerations, economic factors, and other non-technical aspects prevalent in engineering work, and
Communicate effectively through writing and speech while collaborating productively with colleagues, clients, and community members to present innovative concepts, products, or designs.
The PhD curriculum maintains these MS objectives while additionally focusing on preparing graduates who:
Can perform groundbreaking research and pioneer novel technologies in ocean engineering, and
Possess the expertise to publish in peer-reviewed academic journals.
This specialized focus enables our doctoral graduates to embark on research-oriented careers in both industrial and academic environments.
As ORE exclusively offers graduate-level instruction, a parallel objective involves conducting research that supports educational initiatives. Our robust PhD program and internationally diverse doctoral candidates introduce MS students to cutting-edge research developments within a global academic context.
