We maintain that performers require diverse artistic skills. The Acting program at UHM provides dedicated students with access to an unparalleled variety of theatrical techniques from around the globe. Students explore multiple performance disciplines: Stanislavski's approach for stage and screen, indigenous Hawaiian theater, movement arts, puppet performance, comedic clowning, classical Shakespearean works, historical acting styles, vocal accents, theatrical fighting techniques, musical theater, collaborative creation, and numerous Asian performance traditions such as Japanese kabuki, kyogen, and noh; Chinese jingju and kunqu; plus Indonesian randai and wayang listrik. Participants frequently collaborate with the College of Nursing through the HealthCAST simulation initiative. Graduates depart UHM with specialized understanding of how these varied techniques connect, blend, and enhance live performance. No other institution offers the comprehensive theatrical training available through UHM's Acting program.
