The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs share nearly identical core requirements in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. However, the B.A. curriculum includes about eleven humanities and social science courses, compared to roughly eight in the B.S. program. Both degrees mandate second-year foreign language proficiency. Additionally, students must complete five writing-intensive courses prior to graduation (consult the General Catalog for details). The physics major demands thoughtful academic planning, building not just on physics coursework but also on strong mathematical foundations and frequently advanced studies in related fields like astronomy, chemistry, and engineering. Given the diverse career paths available to graduates with solid physics and mathematics training, students should maximize their undergraduate experience by exploring these opportunities as thoroughly as possible.
