The Environmental Earth Science program prepares students for careers in environmental and geotechnical sectors after completing their studies. This curriculum blends core geology subjects like field techniques and sedimentology with practical applications including hydrogeology, geospatial data, and environmental geochemistry.
The Bachelor of Arts requires 27 credits in Earth Sciences, comprising an introductory ERTH course with lab, seven upper-level ERTH classes, a two-credit research seminar, and a minimum of 15 credits from approved upper-division electives in ERTH or related departments. With faculty advisor approval, students may substitute relevant courses from natural sciences, math, or engineering. Participation in a summer field course on the mainland is highly recommended. Supporting coursework includes physics, chemistry, biological sciences, and one semester of calculus (totaling 23-24 credits), which students should complete early in their program. All major and supporting courses require a minimum grade of C (excluding C-).
