As Hawaii's premier institution for film education, ACM: The School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) leads the way in Pacific-region film studies. Situated in Honolulu within the University of Hawaii at Mnoa, SCA commits to scholarly and artistic distinction via its Bachelor of Arts program, fostering creativity and teamwork with a focus on Hawaii, the Pacific Rim, and Asian cultures. Positioned in a state with a thriving entertainment sector, SCA promotes career growth, guidance, and community involvement through initiatives like internships, expert workshops, and special events including the Hawaii International Film Festival.
SCA cultivates and inspires learners to discover their distinctive narrative styles, investigating creative media expressions grounded in individual perspectives and location-specific education across animation, film theory, digital production, and script development.
Fueled by endless inquisitiveness, SCA participants work together and assist one another in artistic projects while maintaining professional conduct. These emerging filmmakers craft screen narratives celebrating cultural variety and self-expression, providing glimpses into their societies, traditions, values, and life journeys. Both during productions and academic sessions, SCA students personify the principles of developing creatives and academics who aim to inform, provoke thought, and captivate viewers through their creations.
Digital Cinema students concentrate on comprehensive film production: scripting, direction, production management, camera work, editing, and audio post-production. The curriculum encourages varied storytelling through creating fictional, avant-garde, non-fiction, and native short films. Practical courses utilize professional-grade film gear, enabling students to master technical filmmaking skills while working with modern tools. This specialization creates a cooperative, career-focused learning atmosphere. Entry to the digital cinema program requires presentation of a creative portfolio.
