The Master of Music in Vocal Performance offers experienced students comprehensive vocal training and academic coursework to prepare for professional performance and teaching careers. This program centers on rigorous one-on-one vocal instruction, personal coaching, language studies, lyric diction with comparative analysis, stimulating academic courses, graduate vocal seminars, and solo performance opportunities with choirs and orchestras. The graduate vocal seminar specifically trains emerging singers for auditions at young artist programs, opera companies, and oratorio performances, while also requiring two annual graduate recitals.

Vocal technique and musical artistry form the foundation of our curriculum. The program features private voice instruction, coaching sessions, vocal pedagogy, language and diction courses, opera performance techniques, and an engaging core music curriculum. At Hartt, students develop their technical skills and musical interpretation under the guidance of renowned faculty. Qualification Requirements

Applicants to all master's degree and Graduate Professional Diploma (GPD) programs must provide evidence of undergraduate study and degree/diploma confirmation.
Complete an audition and interview*. All applicants will have an interview within their major's department or with their audition panel. Applicants to all graduate music education programs will also complete a brief music skills assessment test.
An accompanist is provided free of charge for all vocal auditions. All music should be laid out so that the accompanist does not experience difficulty in handling the material. Individual sheets should be arranged back-to-back in a loose-leaf notebook, however original sheet music is preferred. The following requirements are for performance majors and non-performance majors.
Applicants must prepare three (3) art songs and two (2) selections from the oratorio, opera, or classical music theatre* repertoires, for a total of five (5) selections. All selections will be performed by memory and must encompass four (4) languages - one of which is English - and three (3) varying stylistic periods.
