Prospective students must hold a bachelor's degree in music from an accredited institution or equivalent foreign university. The Graduate Studies Committee will evaluate whether an applicant's qualifications match a bachelor's degree standard and may require additional testing to assess readiness for Hartt's programs.

Qualification Requirements
Applicants to all master's degree and Graduate Professional Diploma (GPD) programs must provide evidence of undergraduate study and degree/diploma confirmation.
Complete an audition and interview*. All applicants will have an interview within their major's department or with their audition panel. Applicants to all graduate music education programs will also complete a brief music skills assessment test.
Submit supporting documents within two weeks of applying:
Letter of Intent
Performance/Professional Resume
Repertoire list: Required for all auditioning applicants
Preliminary Video and Portfolio Submission
Three letters of recommendation
Transcripts from all higher education institutions attended
TOEFL: minimum of 80 (Internet-based test iBT), and 550 (Paper-based test PBT Total).
IELTS: minimum score of 6.5 overall
Duolingo: minimum score of 110 combined
