The Acoustical Engineering program is a nationally acclaimed interdisciplinary engineering initiative offered in collaboration with The Hartt School at the University of Hartford. Students can pursue either an Acoustical Engineering and Music major (BSE) or a BS in Mechanical Engineering with an Acoustics specialization. These two distinct pathways provide innovative approaches to integrating acoustics into an undergraduate engineering education at the University of Hartford. The College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture at the University of Hartford is committed to developing versatile professionals who can transform their interests into rewarding careers. The Acoustical Engineering Program not only provides a strong engineering foundation but also enables students to cultivate their musical passions. Acoustics, the study of sound—its generation, propagation, and detection—spans multiple fields, including mechanical engineering, music, electrical engineering, biology, audiology, and physics. Participants engage in hands-on acoustics projects in partnership with sponsors nationwide.
Our acoustical engineering curriculum presents two unique options for incorporating acoustics into an undergraduate engineering degree. Through our partnership with The Hartt School, students in the acoustical engineering and music track investigate sound science comprehensively. Likewise, the mechanical engineering program (BSME) with an acoustics focus merges a rigorous mechanical engineering course load with the same foundational and elective courses as our acoustical engineering and music track.
