The Master in the Study of Law (M.S.L.) program offers a non-thesis curriculum designed for professionals seeking foundational legal knowledge or specialized expertise in fields intersecting with their careers. Applicants from diverse educational and professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply, provided they hold an accredited bachelor's degree before enrollment. Standardized test scores (LSAT, GRE, GMAT, or MCAT) are required for admission. While graduates gain practical understanding of legal frameworks in their chosen field, this program does not qualify them for bar examinations or legal practice.
To earn the M.S.L. degree, students must complete 30 credit hours, with full-time students finishing in one year and part-time students having up to three years. All students begin their studies in the Fall Semester, starting with a mandatory 3-hour introduction to the American legal system. The remaining curriculum consists of elective courses tailored to each student's professional goals, selected from the law school's comprehensive offerings. Students may complete coursework at either the Athens main campus, the Atlanta facility, or a mix of both locations.
