The general program structure enables participants to either build foundational understanding of American jurisprudence or concentrate on specialized fields within King Hall's renowned academic offerings. Students can select from pre-designed concentrations including commercial law, transnational legal practice, conflict mediation, migration policy, criminal justice systems, IP law, civil rights advocacy, ecological regulation, medical jurisprudence, and numerous other options from our comprehensive course catalog. A preparatory Bar examination track is also available. The LL.M. curriculum at UC Davis combines domestic and international scholars throughout all academic levels, offering candidates diverse coursework during their ten-month immersion. This graduate program equips foreign-trained lawyers with fundamental U.S. legal principles while enabling specialization in chosen disciplines. While structured as an intensive academic year, extended study options exist for those requiring additional time to achieve their professional aspirations.
International applicants must present satisfactory evidence of the completion of legal academic training at an accredited educational institution. American applicants must have completed at least seven years of residential study at accredited colleges and law schools, and must hold a professional degree from a law school approved by the American Bar Association.
There is a minimum TOEFL score of 570 (or 230 for the computer-based examination TOEFL-CBT, or 88 for the iBT exam) required by the law school for foreign language applicants to the LL.M. program. A minimum of 6.5 IELTS is also acceptable.
