The HDFS department aims to deliver an educational program that combines academic knowledge with professional practice in child/youth development and family studies. We strive to train researchers and scholars who can advance understanding of individual and family growth across the lifespan, while also preparing professionals to deliver educational, implementation, and advocacy services that strengthen children and families. These aims align with the University of Georgia's objectives, especially its land-grant commitment to advancing research and applying it to improve lives.
Master of Science: Candidates can pursue this degree through two pathways. The first prepares students for doctoral studies, while the second focuses on professional careers after earning the master's. Both require a 36-credit program and an approved thesis, but differ in that the doctoral track omits the internship component included in the professional track.
