For certified teachers with T-4 status, the M.Ed. serves as a professional advancement degree aimed at deepening expertise in both scientific content and pedagogy. The program requires completion of 36 semester hours (typically 12 courses) of graduate work, culminating in a Professional Portfolio that showcases mastery of competencies outlined by the National Science Teachers Association. While full-time enrollment is possible, all courses are offered during weekday evenings during the academic year or daytime summer sessions to accommodate working professionals pursuing this degree part-time while maintaining full-time teaching positions.
