The Philosophy Department belongs to the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia. Alongside a complete undergraduate program culminating in an A.B. degree, we provide both a terminal M.A. and Ph.D. The department is also involved in three interdisciplinary initiatives, publishes an academic journal, and hosts a vibrant colloquium series.
Our department delivers an extensive curriculum encompassing key philosophical disciplines, culminating in MA and PhD degrees. Faculty members employ diverse methodologies, including historical research, linguistic and logical analysis, and phenomenology. While students can explore varied interests, our primary expertise lies in metaphysics, moral and political philosophy, epistemology, and philosophy of mind. The graduate program aims to provide comprehensive foundational training in these core philosophical fields while allowing specialized study in each student's chosen focus. Entry into the PhD program requires substantial background in philosophy's historical development. Limited enrollment fosters strong faculty-student collaboration. Teacher preparation forms an essential component of the PhD curriculum.
