The Master of Arts in Classics program caters to aspiring Latin instructors and those planning to pursue doctoral studies in classics or similar disciplines. Participants can specialize in Latin, Greek, or both languages, culminating their studies with a thesis project.
Our Classics Department provides Master of Arts degrees focusing on Latin, Greek, or classical languages (combining both Latin and Greek). Graduates have earned prestigious scholarships and awards, securing positions in diverse fields such as K-12 education and gaining admission to top-tier Ph.D. programs. We've developed graduate programs that appeal to students with different aspirations while effectively supporting their professional growth. The M.A. curriculum delivers comprehensive knowledge of classical civilizations, emphasizing language proficiency, historical understanding, archaeological methods, and analytical interpretation. Students join us from across the nation, with typical enrollment of 12-15 during the academic year plus an additional 12-15 in our Summer Institute - specifically designed for high school Latin teachers pursuing their M.A. degree during summer sessions.
