The graduate certificate in Native American Studies demands completion of 15 credit hours along with specific additional criteria. Designed to expand foundational knowledge in Native American Studies, it enables students to concentrate on their primary fields of interest. The program consists of: (a) an initial guided exploration of key Native American Studies subjects, authorized by the INAS Director, (b) two courses within the student's focus area, approved by the INAS Director in coordination with the student's primary advisor, (c) one course outside the student's degree specialization (covering cultures, archaeology, history, law and policy, or literature), (d) successful completion of RELI/NAMS 6701 Methods in Native American Cultural Studies, including a research project, (e) satisfactory performance on at least one comprehensive examination in Native American Studies.
