Our education theory and practice program's emphasis area enables students to concentrate on childhood studies, youth development, and both formal and informal learning environments for elementary-aged children.
Academic work will center on equity and inclusion, justice-oriented pedagogy, critical literacy approaches, STEM and social studies education, home-school partnerships, community-engaged learning, curriculum design, sociocultural perspectives on schooling, global educational experiences, and developing as an educator who effectively serves historically underserved students and communities.

Qualification Requirements
A personal statement telling the doctoral admissions committee why doctoral education is being pursued, the questions and/or commitments about teaching, learning and schooling pushing the applicant to further her or his education, what readings, theories, and/or research inform these questions, why the Doctoral Program of Educational Theory and Practice is an appropriate place to pursue such questions, the emphasis area (or areas) in which the applicant sees his or her interests fitting, and the personal and professional goals for obtaining a PhD degree in Educational Theory and Practice,
A writing sample that demonstrates the applicant's ability for scholarly writing and engagement with intellectual ideas,
A resume or curriculum vitae.
Please note that at least one of the three references you provide to the graduate school should be a university faculty member who can attest to your academic potential, preferably from the master's level.
The Ph.D. requires a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA, a 3.5 graduate GPA, and a combined GRE score of 297.
International applicants must submit a combined IBT TOEFL of at least 80 (a minimum of 20 on the speak and write). IELTS scores need to be at or above 6.0 in all sub parts and have overall score of 6.5 or higher.
