The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) with a specialization in Elementary Education focuses on integrating theoretical frameworks and research from anthropology, sociology, philosophy, psychology, and the humanities into elementary education practices. This rigorous doctoral program demands significant dedication, with full-time enrollment strongly recommended. Eligible candidates may access various financial aid options, including teaching assistantships, tuition waivers, campus housing, and roles at teacher education centers. Competitive fellowships and scholarships are also offered through the College and University.

To earn a Ph.D. in C&I with an Elementary Education concentration, students must complete at least 48 semester hours of coursework, 24 dissertation credits, and pass qualifying exams, preliminary exams, and a dissertation defense. The curriculum features a 9-hour doctoral core in elementary education, 14-18 hours of research methodology training (qualitative and quantitative), plus specialized courses tailored to individual career objectives.
The Elementary Education track within Curriculum and Instruction equips educators to thrive in diverse learning environments. Throughout the program, participants develop advanced skills and insights to address complex challenges in elementary education. Qualification Requirements

A master’s or specialist degree with at least a 3.0 GPA – An earned master’s or specialist degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution, with a minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average (GPA) in all coursework attempted.

Language proficiency test (international students only)– FSU accepts scores from TOEFL (minimum 80), IELTS (minimum 6.5) and MELAB (minimum 77).
