The EdD in Science Education focuses on developing comprehensive knowledge of science education research literature along with related theoretical and applied disciplines, while cultivating the abilities needed to produce innovative, significant research contributions. While many EdD candidates study part-time, their diverse academic backgrounds, professional experiences, and career aspirations lead to customized coursework and individualized program plans.
As a doctoral candidate, you'll collaborate with most faculty members through coursework and research initiatives. A key program feature is the strong mentorship relationship with your primary advisor, who guides not only your dissertation research but also your professional growth in science instruction, educational research, and teacher preparation.

Qualification Requirements
Admission to the doctoral program in science education normally requires a minimum of three years of teaching experience. A previous graduate degree in science education or in a scientific field is common but not required. A GRE score report is required for admission to the Science Education Program, which should be submitted directly to the Graduate School.

Academic writing sample
An interview (in person or via distance technology) with the program's doctoral admissions committee
Applicants are also strongly encouraged to communicate with members of the faculty who share their areas of research interest but may not currently be a member of the admissions committee.
Minimum TOEFL score requirement: overall score of 80 with at least 20 on speaking and writing
Minimum IELTS score requirement: overall band-width of 6.5, with no single band (score) below 6.0
