Our objective is for every student to cultivate their unique artistic voice through clay as the fundamental medium. BFA candidates will gain practical expertise in diverse ceramic techniques, encompassing clay and glaze preparation, kiln construction and operation, wheel throwing, and various hand-building methods. The program emphasizes both functional and sculptural applications. Learners will explore extensive contemporary and historical ceramic artworks. The Lamar Dodd School of Art's Ceramics program strives to guide students in developing distinctive styles and personal expression with clay as their principal medium. Instruction covers both practical and artistic approaches. Participants acquire comprehensive skills in ceramic processes, including formulating clay and glazes, constructing and firing kilns, wheel throwing, and multiple hand-forming techniques. The curriculum provides exposure to broad historical and modern ceramic art examples. All students receive encouragement to participate in competitions, workshops, and national conferences.
