The Department of Religion provides an extensive selection of courses focused on the scholarly examination of religious studies. Our curriculum exposes students to various analytical methods and enables specialization in distinct faith systems including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, African Traditional Religions, and Native American spiritual practices. The program also includes specialized courses covering African-American religious studies, intersections between religion and literature, science, anthropology, as well as women's roles in religious contexts. The religion major allows students to tailor their studies to personal interests while gaining exposure to different perspectives and belief systems. Language studies form an integral part of our department, with opportunities to learn Hebrew and Arabic at various proficiency levels, including options for majoring in Arabic or minoring in Hebrew.
Graduates can pursue diverse career paths such as clergy work, education, legal professions, corporate sectors, and public service. A bachelor's degree in Religion also serves as excellent groundwork for advanced academic pursuits.
