In today's society, religion holds significant influence across communities and nations. On a national level, we observe everything from nuanced Supreme Court rulings on religious liberty to intense political discussions connecting faith to education, sexuality, and social justice issues. Internationally, religious factors shape political landscapes, making them a recurring topic in mainstream media and digital platforms. Our graduates enter diverse fields including education, social services, nonprofit organizations, and legal professions, with many continuing to advanced academic studies.
The Religious Studies program equips students to examine religion as a powerful social, cultural, and political phenomenon in contemporary society. The curriculum mandates four foundational courses covering global religious traditions, academic methodologies, and modern religious tensions and collaborations. Students can now choose between two culminating experiences: a conventional research seminar or a hands-on community engagement project.
This dual-degree program merges the Religion BA requirements with New Jersey's elementary education certification standards. Studying religion in an academic environment provides future educators with deep cultural awareness and critical thinking skills essential for classroom teaching.
