Students accepted into the Honors Program who have academic passions in arts and humanities fields not fully covered by existing Franklin College of Arts and Sciences departments can opt for a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS).
UGA's IDS program demands careful preparation from the outset, requiring close collaboration with the IDS director. This path isn't intended for undecided students or those with scattered coursework, but rather for individuals with a clearly defined academic vision that aligns with specific personal goals.
The curriculum requires at least 24 credit hours of thematically connected courses across multiple disciplines, with at least one discipline from Franklin College. The degree culminates with a 3-credit Senior Thesis focused on a topic of the student's choosing.
