UGA's dual degree program combines an A.B. in History with a B.S.Ed. in Social Studies Education, equipping students to teach social studies with specialization options in economics, history, political science, or geography.
This program leads to Georgia Professional Standards Commission certification for teaching grades 6-12. The curriculum covers broad surveys of key topics in African, American, Asian, Latin American, Western, and World History. Through cohort learning, students gain practical experience while developing content expertise and teaching methodologies.
Career paths include educational roles in schools, museums, and historic sites; research positions in historical societies and think tanks; media careers in journalism and production; information specialist roles like archivists; legal and advocacy work; as well as opportunities with businesses and nonprofits.
