Learners will adopt an intersectional perspective when examining identity, investigating how race and gender influence personal identity, concepts of group affiliation, social distinctions, power dynamics, systems of inequality, belief frameworks, and political and civic engagement. The course will examine how race and gender interact with—at times forming, reinforcing, or challenging—other aspects of identity and social structures such as socioeconomic status, religious affiliation, and national identity.
