The Department of Political Science provides two graduate program options: a Master of Arts (available with or without a thesis requirement) and a Doctor of Philosophy degree. For political science and international relations, the department offers a Master of Arts program (also with thesis and non-thesis tracks). The M.A. programs cater to students seeking advanced academic training, career-enhancing skills for public or private sector roles, or preparation for doctoral studies.
The standard M.A. curriculum familiarizes students with political science research methodologies and the scholarly approaches across its subfields. Many M.A. graduates choose to continue their education by applying to Ph.D. programs, whether at the University of Florida or other institutions.
Admission to graduate study in the Department of Political Science normally requires the completion of an undergraduate major in political science or its equivalent.
