The Development Studies and Economic Analysis specialization offers a multidisciplinary curriculum examining theories and assessments of economic, political, social, and sustainable development, along with related policies and challenges. This program aims to: (1) Trace the progression of development theories from the 1800s to present day (2) Examine competing viewpoints in policy discussions and alternative development approaches (3) Evaluate the effectiveness and obstacles of different economic and development programs (4) Analyze fundamental concepts and their impact on human rights, equality, and environmental sustainability. Students can focus on specific objectives aligned with their academic interests.

The MALAS program's Development Studies and Economic Analysis track provides an interdisciplinary approach to studying economic, political, and social development theories, policies, and their applications. Key objectives include: (1) Understanding historical development paradigms (2) Investigating diverse policy perspectives and development models (3) Appraising results and difficulties of development projects (4) Scrutinizing core principles affecting social justice and ecological balance. Learners may concentrate on particular aims that match their professional aspirations.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants with a bachelor's degree only, a minimum grade point average of B (3.0), calculated from all grades and credits after the semester where the applicant reached 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours is required. For applicants from countries where English is not the ofcial language, a minimum score on one of these English Language Skills tests, IELTS - 6.0,TOEFL IBT- 80, PBT- 550.
Background and interest in Latin America demonstrated through coursework, study abroad, work or volunteer experience, or other.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
3.0 GPA in all upper-division undergraduate coursework.
Minimal proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole.
For international applicants and applicants from Puerto Rico: satisfactory scores on the IELTS (6), MELAB (77) or TOEFL (550/213/80).
