The REM program equips M.A.E. students to develop expertise in educational research methods and data analysis. This M.A.E. curriculum includes coursework in research methodology, educational statistics, and program evaluation, involving students in faculty-led collaborative projects and offering chances to showcase methodological research. A master's thesis is mandatory, making this program ideal for those pursuing a Ph.D. in REM or related fields.
Research and Evaluation Methodology M.A.E. candidates are required to conduct methodological research with faculty, present findings at conferences (state, regional, national, or international), and contribute to research publications.
REM students collaborate with advisors to create a customized study plan featuring core methodology courses and electives. Many intermediate and advanced REM courses mandate submitting research proposals, which students—guided by advisors or instructors—often present at major conferences like those hosted by the American Educational Research Association, Florida Educational Research Association, and National Council on Measurement in Education.
REM faculty members hold editorial roles and review for methodology-focused and subject-specific journals. These publications frequently allow students to co-review submissions with faculty, with such opportunities regularly announced to all REM students.
