This 72-credit dual master's and specialist degree program equips students with the specialized training needed to work as school counselors in elementary, middle, or high schools across both public and private sectors.
The M.Ed./Ed.S. and MAE/Ed.S. in School Counseling prepares graduates with the foundational competencies necessary for Florida Department of Education School Counseling Certification. This comprehensive 72-credit curriculum develops the professional expertise required for counseling positions in K-12 educational settings.
As a state-approved program with NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education) and CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) accreditation, the School Counseling program requires students to pass all relevant Florida Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE) sections. These include the General Knowledge test (covering mathematics, English, reading, and writing), Professional Education exam, and Guidance and Counseling K-12 Subject Area Exam before graduation. For certification inquiries, students may contact the College of Education's Office of Student Services.
