Bachelor's Degree
To earn a doctoral degree, students must complete 36 credit hours of 6000-level mathematics courses. Teaching hours, colloquium participation, dissertation work, or independent study do not fulfill this requirement. Doctoral candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive preliminary exam with both written and oral sections, conducted by the Department. Additionally, students must demonstrate reading proficiency in one foreign language: French, German, or Russian. A significant component of the mathematics doctoral program is the dissertation, which explores topics from various active research areas in pure and applied mathematics.
