Psychology explores the study of human and animal behavior. Students pursuing a psychology degree gain a comprehensive, science-focused liberal arts education. Consequently, graduates with a Bachelor of Science in psychology are highly valued across business, education, and mental health sectors. Professional psychology careers typically require graduate-level education. The University of Florida's psychology program equips students with a solid foundation for careers in psychology or advanced studies in fields like law or medicine. The curriculum highlights psychological principles and their real-world applications, covering both natural and social science perspectives. Psychology majors can choose between two tracks: general psychology or behavioral and cognitive neuroscience. Both paths involve psychology, statistics, mathematics, and biology coursework, with opportunities to complete a senior honors thesis. The specializations differ in their required courses. General psychology includes four core discipline areas plus psychology electives, while behavioral and cognitive neuroscience emphasizes natural science-oriented psychology classes and permits select approved non-psychology courses related to modern neuroscience. This track also mandates additional mathematics and biology courses compared to general psychology.
