The Psychology Department provides undergraduate students with options to pursue either a major (31 credits) or minor (18 credits). These programs introduce students to diverse viewpoints within contemporary psychology, including historical frameworks, developmental psychology, and various approaches like social, cultural, clinical, cognitive, and biological perspectives. Faculty members who teach undergraduate courses are experts in both theoretical and experimental research, with advanced seminars occasionally led by experienced graduate students. The curriculum emphasizes social science research methodologies while allowing students the freedom to focus on two distinct study areas.
Prospective Psychology majors must participate in one of the Major/Minor Declaration Sessions conducted each fall and spring semester. The Director of Undergraduate Studies oversees these sessions, explaining program requirements and opportunities before pairing students with faculty advisors. Students collaborate with their advisors to design personalized elective plans and complementary courses from other disciplines, creating an academic pathway tailored to their individual objectives.
