Plant biologists play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing our present and future environment through their work with crops, textiles, energy sources, ornamental plants, medicines, urban greenery, soil quality, plant diseases, and natural ecosystems. Students in Plant Science programs explore biological principles, plant structure and function, chemical processes, insect studies, physical sciences, earth and water systems, plant recognition, disease management, cultivation techniques, and landscape horticulture. This focus area equips learners to implement plant preservation and ecological principles for managing invasive species while restoring and safeguarding indigenous plant populations, particularly in wilderness settings. Additionally, students acquire expertise in propagating native species for environmental rehabilitation and sustainable landscape design.
