The Surveying and Mapping specialization holds ABET accreditation and equips students for careers in the Surveying and Mapping field. The geomatics discipline involves gathering, organizing, and interpreting geospatial information using techniques such as ground surveying, photogrammetry, remote sensing, satellite positioning, inertial measurements, echo-sounding, and laser scanning. Students in geomatics explore geometry, statistics, boundary law, and the operation of surveying and mapping instruments. They discover methods for measuring, analyzing, and converting land, infrastructure, and natural resources into practical formats and systems. Practical training includes using field equipment and learning in advanced classroom settings. Current land values, urban growth rates, and environmental issues demand diverse skills to create, manage, and utilize geospatial data. Geomatics majors pursue either the Surveying and Mapping or Geospatial Analysis specialization.
