The geomatics field involves gathering, organizing, and interpreting spatial information using techniques like land surveying, aerial photography, satellite imagery, GPS technology, inertial navigation, sonar mapping, and LiDAR. Students in geomatics programs explore subjects such as geometric principles, statistical methods, property law, and the operation of surveying and mapping tools. They acquire skills in measuring and evaluating land, built environments, and natural assets, transforming this data into practical formats and systems. Practical training includes using field instruments and engaging with advanced classroom technologies. Current property prices, urban expansion trends, and ecological issues demand diverse skills to create, oversee, and utilize geographic data. Geomatics majors pursue either the Surveying and Mapping track or the Geospatial Analysis concentration.
