This program utilizes food science and nutritional principles to enhance the health of individuals and communities. Students in dietetics explore subjects like chemistry, biology, microbiology, nutrition, communication, food science, and management, equipping them for dietetic internships or advanced academic pursuits.
The Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), accredited by ACEND (the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Accreditation Council), prepares graduates to apply for competitive dietetic internships—an essential requirement for becoming a Registered Dietitian (RD). Additionally, students can continue their education through graduate programs.
Registered dietitians work in diverse environments, including hospitals, government agencies, food corporations, educational institutions, and private practice. Growing opportunities exist in wellness programs, fitness initiatives, and corporate sales and marketing. Aspiring dietitians should gain hands-on experience by volunteering or working with an RD and engaging in leadership roles through campus organizations like the FSHN Club.
