The Master of Music in Performance program equips talented musicians with the skills needed for professional music careers. This highly competitive program offers abundant performance experiences and pairs students with faculty mentors in their studio practice.

Participants gain comprehensive practical training in Western classical music performance under the guidance of accomplished artist-instructors. Alumni establish careers as performers, arts administrators, educators, and other music-related fields.

The oboe department provides exceptional resources and diverse performance platforms through various ensembles, including orchestral, wind, chamber, and contemporary music groups. Quarterly instruction includes personalized critiques in both specialized oboe masterclasses and comprehensive woodwind performance sessions. Lamont's oboe students learn from acclaimed performers Ian Wisekal and Sarah Mellander Bierhaus. Maestro Wisekal serves as Principal Oboist for both the Greeley Philharmonic and Crested Butte Music Festival, with prior experience as Associate Principal Oboist for the Puerto Rico Symphony. Professor Bierhaus holds principal positions with Opera Colorado and the Boulder Philharmonic while serving as Associate Principal for the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.

Bachelors degree All graduate applicants must hold an earned baccalaureate from a regionally accredited college or university or the recognized equivalent from an international institution

Grade point average The minimum undergraduate GPA for admission consideration for graduate study at the University of Denver is a cumulative 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits approximately two years of work for the baccalaureate degree An earned masters degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution supersedes the minimum standards for the baccalaureate For applicants with graduate coursework but who have not earned a masters degree or higher the GPA from the graduate work may be used to meet the requirement The minimum GPA is a cumulative 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for all graduate coursework undertaken
