The Master of Music in Performance program equips talented musicians with the skills needed for professional music careers. This highly selective course offers abundant performance opportunities and pairs students with faculty mentors. Participants gain intensive practical experience in Western classical music performance under the guidance of accomplished artist-educators. Alumni pursue diverse careers including performance, arts administration, teaching, and beyond.
Flute students at Lamont join a dedicated, supportive studio environment directed by a nationally renowned orchestral flutist and piccolo player. Professor Julie Duncan Thornton, currently with the Colorado Symphony, has performed with prestigious ensembles including the New York Philharmonic and Saint Louis Symphony. She teaches at the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, mentoring exceptional collegiate flutists while collaborating with elite faculty musicians. Her solo performances include appearances with the Colorado Symphony, Lakewood Symphony, and at major National Flute Association events. As a member of Trio Arcadia (Flute, Horn and Harp), she has performed internationally, including engagements in Australia.
