The conducting certificate program is tailored for conductors holding a master's degree who seek further training before entering an artist diploma program. Participants gain expertise in Western classical music conducting while honing essential skills for all aspects of musical direction, such as audition management, talent recruitment, and ensemble leadership.
This certificate program offers three specialized tracks: orchestral, wind ensemble, and choral conducting, each providing mentorship from Lamont's distinguished faculty. Upon completion, graduates will be prepared to either advance to artist diploma or doctoral programs or launch their professional conducting careers.
Applicants must possess a music degree or equivalent from an accredited music institution.
Spanning two years and 28 credit hours, the program includes weekly private instruction, ensemble direction opportunities, and two advanced conducting courses outside the student's primary focus area. All participants must present a complete conducting recital as part of their graduation requirements.
