The Bachelor of Music in Performance offers specialized training in Western classical music performance. Students gain intensive practical experience in their chosen discipline under the guidance of faculty who are both accomplished artists and dedicated educators, committed to shaping successful musical careers. This competitive program combines conservatory-level instruction with the rich academic environment of a liberal arts university.
Flute students at Lamont join a dedicated, supportive studio directed by Julie Duncan Thornton, a nationally renowned orchestral flutist and piccolo player. Currently performing with the Colorado Symphony, Professor Thornton's distinguished career includes engagements with the New York Philharmonic, Saint Louis Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, and Houston Symphony. She teaches at the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, mentoring exceptional collegiate flutists while collaborating with esteemed faculty artists in chamber performances. Her solo appearances include performances with the Colorado Symphony, Lakewood Symphony, Greece (NY) Symphony, Colorado Young Sinfonia, and at National Flute Association conventions in Boston and Chicago. With Trio Arcadia (Flute, Horn and Harp), she has performed internationally, including tours in Australia.
