Lamont vocal students receive instruction from Catherine Kasch, Matthew Plenk, Cody Laun, and Heidi Melton - a faculty team boasting more than fifty years of collective performance and teaching expertise. Sahar Nouri serves as the Lamont Opera Theatre's music director. Language coaching is provided by Beth Nielsen, a specialist equally skilled in opera, art song, chamber works, and musical theater. The program frequently hosts renowned guest artists for masterclasses and performances, with recent visitors including Christine Brewer, Michelle DeYoung, Ailyn Prez, Greg Carpenter, and Stefano de Peppo.
Through Lamont Opera Theatre, students acquire practical professional experience by participating in fully staged annual opera and musical productions. While undergraduates make up most of the voice program, they regularly secure leading roles. Vocalists also participate in choirs and can explore jazz performance, with rehearsals and concerts taking place in the cutting-edge Newman Center for the Performing Arts.
