You'll gain expertise in meteorology, the study of Earth's atmosphere, equipping you to analyze and respond to weather phenomena that impact multiple societal sectors - from droughts causing water scarcity, agricultural losses, and wildfire risks to excessive rainfall leading to floods. The program also covers climatology, examining long-term weather patterns, climate variations, and extreme events. Your coursework will explore interactions between land, ocean, and atmosphere, plus solar and astronomical influences. These weather and climate forecasting abilities prove valuable across agriculture, tourism, emergency response, resource allocation, media, and clean energy sectors.
Graduates of the Meteorology and Climate Science (BS) degree will demonstrate these competencies: Utilize quantitative analysis for atmospheric and climatic challenges. Collect, process, and evaluate atmospheric data from ground instruments, satellite observations, and computer models. Effectively communicate weather and climate information to both technical and non-technical audiences through reports and presentations. Employ programming, mathematics, and statistics to analyze atmospheric data using various scientific software tools. Support industries including farming, natural resource conservation, emergency planning, sustainable energy, and hospitality through applied atmospheric science knowledge.
