The Elementary Teacher Education (ETE) program equips future educators with the expertise to excel as elementary, middle school, and special education teachers, ready to address the needs of today's diverse classrooms.
Our curriculum offers dual certification in elementary education (K-6) paired with one of six specialization areas: English as a Second Language, special education, middle school mathematics, middle school English, middle school science, or middle school social studies. This additional qualification enhances graduates' career prospects.
Alternatively, students may pursue a single certification in elementary education combined with a University of Delaware minor. Those considering this path should consult an advisor to understand the potential constraints of a single certification.
1. Future educators will gain expertise in K-8 student development to establish inclusive, student-focused environments that address individual needs, cultural diversity, and community backgrounds through an anti-bias educational approach fostering empathy, respect, understanding, and relationships. 2. Educators-in-training will exhibit comprehensive content mastery and interdisciplinary connections to facilitate student engagement in inquiry, analytical thinking, innovation, and teamwork to solve both local and global challenges. 3. Teacher candidates will utilize specialized teaching knowledge, research-backed methods, and student performance data to deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate instruction that is accessible, relevant, and challenging for every learner. 4. Emerging teachers will cultivate critical awareness to evaluate and refine their professional choices, collaborate with families and communities, and champion equity to support student development and elevate the teaching field.
