The Elementary Teacher Education (ETE) program equips students with the essential skills to excel as elementary, middle school, and special education teachers, ready to address the needs of today's diverse learners. Our curriculum offers dual certification in elementary education (K-8) paired with one of six specialization areas: English as a Second Language, special education, middle school math, middle school English, middle school science, or middle school social studies. This additional certification enhances graduates' career prospects. Alternatively, students may opt for single certification in elementary education combined with a University of Delaware minor, though they should consult an advisor about potential restrictions.
The Bachelor of Science in Education's four-year program includes graduate-level coursework that prepares ETE majors for the Master of Arts in Childhood Foreign Language Education. This interdisciplinary degree focuses on training educators for dual-language immersion classrooms. Through careful planning of graduate EDUC courses in this 4+1 program, students can transition directly into the MA program through the College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, potentially completing their master's degree within one year of full-time study.
