The Bachelor of Music in Music History and Literature delivers a comprehensive curriculum focused on Western music's historical and literary traditions, while allowing for specialized exploration in complementary disciplines like music theory, literature, anthropology, philosophy, history, and foreign languages. Students complete their studies with an in-depth senior thesis project guided by a music history faculty advisor. While primarily designed for those pursuing graduate studies in musicology, this program also appeals to students interested in non-performance music careers such as arts administration, library sciences, or multimedia education.
Students can engage in funded summer research projects and independent studies. Additionally, they gain hands-on experience with historical performance through the school's Early Music Ensembles, which utilize our notable collection of period instruments to recreate medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque musical works.
