The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Applied Music prepares students for professional careers as performers or music professors at the collegiate level. This specialized program focuses on cultivating exceptional musical skills on a principal instrument while fostering academic excellence and professional standards in the field. Admission to the B.M. in Applied Music requires an audition on a primary instrument, which may include woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, piano, classical guitar, harp, or voice.
The curriculum features intensive coursework in music theory, ear training, music history, piano studies, and private lessons, along with advanced electives like counterpoint, keyboard harmony, jazz theory, and specialized seminars. Students also explore musical repertoire through advanced literature courses and ensemble participation. Performance experiences encompass large ensembles, opera productions, chamber music programs, competitions, summer festivals, and solo recitals.
Upon completing the program, graduates will: Perform harpsichord repertoire with technical mastery and artistic interpretation grounded in theoretical, historical, and cultural understanding.
