The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Applied Music prepares students for professional careers as musicians or university-level music educators. This specialized program focuses on mastering a primary instrument while fostering academic excellence and professional standards in music. Admission to the applied music track requires an audition on one of the approved instruments: woodwind, brass, strings, percussion, piano, classical guitar, harp, or voice.
The curriculum features intensive training in music theory, ear training, music history, piano proficiency, and private lessons, along with advanced electives like counterpoint, keyboard harmony, jazz theory, and specialized seminars. Students also explore musical repertoire through advanced literature courses and ensemble performances. Performance experience is gained through symphony orchestras, opera productions, chamber groups, competitions, summer programs, and solo recitals.
Upon completing the program, graduates will: Exhibit technical mastery and artistic interpretation in double bass performances, grounded in theoretical, historical, and cultural understanding. Apply research methodologies, analytical skills, and technological proficiency to communicate musical concepts effectively to varied audiences. Engage in professional collaborations within both musical institutions and community organizations. Cultivate cultural awareness and champion principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility through their artistic practice.
